3rd July 09

Another really hot day … hmmmm – there are times when I really regret having such a lovely fur coat!! Firewoman Victoria had a headache today – which normally signals thunderstorms (oooohhhh!!). Although the sky got really black today, all we had was a bit of rain (phew - Sou'westers and waders are too heavy for a little bear to wear!!) and at least I didn’t have to look after Victoria as she is rather scared of storms!

No flying for me today coz of this dodgy weather – hmmmm don’t really understand the connection between weather & flying & why the weather effects flying so much. Ooops – shouldn’t have said that out loud – Victoria has decided that I should learn & has given me the PPL study book on weather – gulp! Oh well, every cloud has a silver lining (ha ha!) & it gave me the chance to snuggle up with my lovely Firebear and to learn about clouds. Ooooh – did you know cumulonimbus (CB) clouds contain severe convection currents, with very high, unpredictable winds, particularly in the vertical plane (updrafts and downdrafts). They are therefore extremely dangerous to aircraft. Smaller, propeller-driven planes cannot cope with the conditions and must fly around them ….. aaahh so that’s why them pilots don’t like CBs!!
